American Solar Engergy Society (ASES)
Overview:
ASES (American Solar Energy Society) is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1954, and dedicated to promoting the increased application of solar energy, other sustainable energies and energy efficiency. It was formed in concert with ISIS (International Solar Energy Society), and is member. The early driving force was the desire to provide solar energy to agricultural operations in the southwest region of the United States, and the first conferences were led by ISIS in Phoenix and Tucson.
Membership in ASES is open to individuals, corporations and its constituent state and regional chapters. These latter are autonomous organizations with their own memberships and boards of directors, and are customarily the main venue for meetings of interested participants. ASES also has Topical Divisions, which serve to acquire and disseminate information on the technical aspects on energy use and conservation. ASES holds annual conferences and events, but for the most part it encourages participation in the far more plentiful and convenient state chapter meetings and events - such as Green Energy Ohio's annual solar tour.
