Cleveland Engineering
Society (CES)
Overview:
The Cleveland Engineering Society (CES) is a professional and trade association founded in 1880 as Civil Engineers Club, debating such issues as English vs. Metric measurement systems and other issues. The accretion of other interested engineers led to changing the name to the more encompassing moniker used today. As a major manufacturing center, Cleveland benefits greatly from the meeting of minds from different spheres of engineering, science and mathematics, balanced by professionals in marketing and management.
CES operates through divisions and committees. The divisions are interdisciplinary technical interest groups focused on such issues as energy, construction, environment, healthcare and technology management. The committees key in on organizational support issues like membership development, community outreach and education, and marketing and public relations. Outside of division and committee work, members meet at monthly leadership breakfasts for a presentation by a leader in a technical field or an institutional representative speaker, and to network. There are also monthly social events. There is usually an annual thematic event encompassing a full day.
