Overview: Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) was originally founded as The American Society of Lubrication Engineers in 1944. Against the backdrop of World War II, it had become clear that the acceleration of development of engines, drive trains, machining processes and other mechanisms had outstripped the responsiveness of any one lubricant company and some collegial exchange was necessary. The development of devised operation on the micron and submicron scale has required even more stringent adaptations and investigation.STLE pursues it's objectives through geographically defined Local Sections; Industry Councils keyed in on public information and public policy; and Technical Committees addressing specific applications and technical issues. It also works jointly with other technical societies such ASTM and ASME in discovering and addressing emerging issues.
